[ARCHIVED] MVWD's Public Water Supply Safe from Coronavirus

Ice Cube Falling into Water

The COVID-19 virus (also known as the coronavirus) is a virus passed from person to person, through close contact similar to how the flu is spread. There is no evidence that the virus has been detected in drinking water nor that it can survive in water. MVWD uses conventional water treatment methods that include filtration and disinfection to ensure customers receive safe, reliable and high quality water. The District uses multiple steps in the treatment process that physically removes, disinfects and chemically inactivates viruses, bacteria and other living organisms from your drinking water.

MVWD reminds customers to use the following recommendations to limit risk of illness:

  • Wash your hands often, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose with unwashed hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are coughing or sneezing
  • Clean high-contact surfaces like phone screens, keyboards, doorknobs, steering wheels, etc.
