New water rates will go into effect January 1, 2023. This increase is part of a multi-year water rate schedule that was formally adopted by the Board of Directors on November 20, 2019 following a public hearing. During this rate setting process, the Board of Directors established Demand Reduction Rates to be implemented during periods of planned decreases in water use. Demand Reduction Rates address revenue shortfalls when less water is consumed but service costs need to be met.
During their September 14, 2022 meeting, MVWD's Board of Directors reviewed a financial analysis of revenue shortfalls and approved implementation of Stage 2 Demand Reduction Rates.
The new rates include changes to the existing budget-based tiered rate structure for single-family residential customers and irrigation meter customers; "pass through" charges for unforeseen increases in wholesale water rates/charges; and demand reduction rates. The increased rates ensure the District will continue to fund operational and facility replacement needs.
