Governor Gavin Newsom recently expanded the drought declaration to include Monte Vista’s service area. Statewide, California is in a declared drought. While MVWD is not restricting water use, customers are encouraged to reduce their water use where possible.
Drinking water (both tap water and bottled water) can come from a variety of different sources, including rivers and streams, lakes and ponds, springs and groundwater and reservoirs. MVWD’s drinking water supply comes from local groundwater and surface water imported from northern California.
The state’s northern reservoirs are at a record low, which impacts all California residents. While MVWD is not imposing water use restrictions, customers are encouraged to reduce their water use to help preserve stored water.
Want to do your part? Follow these simple “best practices” to use water wisely and reduce water waste:
- Set sprinkler timers to water between the hours of 8 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- Adjust watering and fix broken sprinklers to avoid excessive runoff
- Turn off sprinklers when it rains (and the 2 days after)
- Repair leaks within 7 days of discovery
- Use a hose with a shut-off nozzle
- Use commercial car washes rather than washing cars at home
- No hosing down paved surfaces, except when required for health or safety purposes
