MVWD is asking customers to reduce water use for seven days beginning December 7th as a major imported water pipeline is taken out of service for scheduled repairs.
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), which is MVWD's imported water supplier, is shutting down its Rialto and Etiwanda Pipelines for routine maintenance December 7 - 13, 2020. The District has sufficient alternative water supplies to meet demands during the shutdown, but we ask that customers continue to use water efficiently. While many customers have developed good water use habits, MVWD suggests the following reminders to avoid extra water consumption.
Indoor water use:
- Do not leave water running when washing dishes.
- Run only full loads in your washing machine and dishwasher.
- Do not leave water running when brushing your teeth or shaving.
Outdoor water use:
- Do a normal, thorough watering of lawns, but not more than normal because the extra water will be wasted. Hand-water "hot" or dry spots on lawns.
- Avoid fertilizing lawns and plants prior to the shutdown. Fertilizer, which encourages growth, requires more water.
- Do not plant new landscaping, which typically requires continual watering to establish plants, shrubs and trees. Delay new plantings until after December 13th.
