Scholarship Opportunities

Monte Vista Water District provides scholarship opportunities to students within its service area. These opportunities allow students to explore the importance of water and teach them about the value of water.  

MVWD Bruce J. Lance, Jr. Water Scholarship

In recognition of his extraordinary service to the District for 44 years as the District’s General Counsel. The board chose to establish in Mr. Lance’s honor the "Bruce J. Lance, Jr. Water Scholarship" in 2013. 

  • High School seniors residing in the MVWD service area 
  • Current GPA of 2.5 or higher 
  • Planning to attend a two- or four-college in the following school year
  • Demonstration of financial need for the scholarship, including a statement of need (300 words or less) and any applicable document (e.g. Free/Reduced Price-meals, Federal Student Aid [FAFSA], DREAM Act) 
  • Must submit completed application, essay, and demonstration of financial need by the deadline
  • Two Scholarships: $1,500 each 

The 2023 "Bruce J. Lance Scholarship" is currently closed for submissions. Check back in fall for more 2023-24 school year scholarship opportunities.   

WEWAC Scholar Program

In 2014, the Water Education Water Awareness Committee (WEWAC) established the "WEWAC Water Scholar Program" in order to promote water awareness through education programs. 

Since then, the Water Scholar Program provides financial support to high school seniors planning to attend a two or four year college in the following school year.

  • High school seniors living in WEWAC’s service area (students within MVWD’s service area meet this criteria)
  • Current GPA of 2.5 or higher 
  • Planning to attend a two or four year college in the following school year
  • Scholarships: $2,000 each
  • Deadline: Currently closed for submissions
