Using the theme "Water is Life," students in Grades Kindergarten through 12th grade in schools within the service area of the Monte Vista Water District are invited to create an art poster depicting various water uses, ways to use water more efficiently, or water conservation topics.
The winners of the 2020 "Water is Life" Contest artwork will be entered into a regional art contest hosted by Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD). MWD will choose 36 poster designs from hundreds of entries submitted by water agencies throughout Southern California. The winners, who will be featured in MWD’s Student Art Calendar 2021, will be announced in winter and recognized at a special event in early December.
Hannah and Logan Guthrie, sixth and first graders at Monte Vista Elementary School, were honored for their award-winning art posters at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s annual "Water is Life" Student Art Poster Contest awards ceremony. Their posters were among 36 selected for recognition from hundreds of entries, representing artwork from grades Kindergarten through 12th grade, submitted by water agencies in Metropolitan’s six-county service area.
Hannah’s poster received first place in the Grades 4 through 6 division in Monte Vista Water District’s local contest, while Logan’s received first place in the Grades Kindergarten through 3 division. The District sent eight winning posters from its contest to Metropolitan Water District (MWD) for judging in the regional contest.The 36 award-winning posters are featured in a 2019 calendar, published by MWD, that was unveiled during the ceremony on December 4, 2018.
